LEADERSHIP EDUCATION 100: Traditions, Wellness, and Foundations of Citizenship, 2015 + Drill
Leadership Instructor: MSgt Jordan Email: ( [email protected] ) Course description: LE 100 is the component of JROTC leadership education. It is intended for students who are entering the AFJROTC program and beginning their high school studies. It will introduce cadets to history, organization, mission, traditions, goals, and objectives of JROTC for all services. It introduces key military customs and courtesies, how to project a positive attitude, and exam the principles of ethical and moral behavior. This course will provide knowledge about the AFROTC mission and organization. Additionally, wear of the uniform, Air Force customs and courtesies, U.S. flag, study habits and time management techniques. Alcohol and drug abuse, first aid treatment, attitude, discipline and respect and basic drill skills are introduced. They will learn about real-life issues such as understanding contracts, leases, warranties, legal notices, personal bills, practical and money-saving strategies for grocery shopping, apartment selection, and life with roommates. The text contains many leadership topics that will benefit students as well as provide them with some of the necessary skills needed to put into practice what they have learned during their time in AFJROTC. We are confident this course, coupled with what cadets have already learned during their time in AFJROTC, will equip them with the qualities needed to serve in leadership positions within the corps. Throughout the text are many ethical dilemmas, case studies, and role play activities built into the lessons. These activities are based on real life experiences and will allow students the opportunity to practice what they learn by getting involved in discussions and expressing their opinions. AEROSPACE SCIENCE 100: Journey into Aviation History, 2010
Academic Instructor: N/A Email: ( N/A ) Course description: A Journey into Aviation History is a volume of the Aerospace Science series. This volume gives the members of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) a basic knowledge of the origins and development of today’s aerospace world. It provides information on aviation history; how it began, how it has impacted our military forces of today, and how it will continue to impact it in the future. Course outline: First Semester Unit 1: Imagining Flight Unit 2: Exploring Flight Second Semester Unit 3: Developing Flight Unit 4: Extending Flight AEROSPACE SCIENCE 200: Global and Cultural Studies, 2010 Academic Instructor: N/A Email: ( N/A ) Course description: This is a customized course about the world’s cultures. The course is specifically created for the US Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force Junior ROTC programs. It introduces students to the world’s cultures through the study of world affairs, regional studies, and cultural awareness. The course delves into history, geography, religions, languages, culture, political systems, economics, social issues, environmental concerns, and human rights. It looks at major events and significant figures that have shaped each region. The regional areas included in this course are the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Russia and the Former Soviet Republics, Latin America, and Europe. The lessons include excellent videos to provide a window into life and issues within the regions, followed by a variety of hands-on activities created to engage the student. Readings are also available to set the stage for each lesson, along with workbook exercises suitable for in-class or homework assignments. The course begins with the study of the space environment from the earliest days of interest in astronomy and early ideas of the heavens, through the Renaissance, and on into modern astronomy. It investigates the importance of entering space and discusses manned and unmanned space flights, focusing on concepts surrounding spaceflight, space vehicles, launch systems, and space missions. Course outline: First Semester: Unit 1: The Space Environment Unit 2: Exploring Space Second Semester: Unit 3: Manned and Unmanned Spaceflight Unit 4: Space Technology AEROSPACE SCIENCE 400: Management of the Cadet Corp Academic Instructor: N/A Email: ( N/A ) Course description: The cadets should be in a leadership position of managing cadet corps programs by their fourth year in the Air Force Junior ROTC program. Not every leadership position needs to be held by fourth year cadets and AS 400 is intended for 4th year cadets who hold corps management positions. Planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, controlling, and decision-making will be done by cadets. They will put into practice their communication, decision-making, personal interaction, managerial, and organizational skills. Instructors should keep in mind that since there is no textbook for this course, the course syllabus will be structured so that cadets achieve course objectives by completing corps management activities.
